“A human can speak 5 times more with her/ his actions, than with words”
The number 5 comes from the sense organs of the human body. Human society is biologically homogeneous, but socially heterogeneous. In today's world, we see the outside world as a storm and we have more individuals who prefer an isolated world, than a connected world. All of us are born with the same capabilities and features, however the social heterogeneous traits amongst us builds our society around us. Every now and then, I hear from my colleagues, friends and next of kin on their experience some form of bullying, emotional domination or ragging. It is something that all of us have experienced but few of us do fight back, for ourselves and for those who can’t fight for themselves. This article highlights what we usually do and what must be done.
Why does it happen?
The cause is ignorance and combined with a significant lack of empathy.
It is tough to imagine and prepare for the implications for our actions, when we don’t have the needful experience of living on our own. It was already tough in the era of social media, where we can easily build a rolling snowball of impression with the tiniest of action. Such ease of deception has certainly led to imbalanced interaction between strangers, friends or foes. Empathy is our ability to keep ourselves into the boots of the one in front of us.
Presence of empathy helps us understand the cause for every action of the person in front of us. It is certain that we cannot teach someone to be less ignorant or have more sense of empathy. So, we can only teach ourselves on what needs to be done.
What should one do in such a scenario?
When people do such acts of domination (physical and emotional) and ragging, it is only from their own perspective of amusement. It is their sole intention to extract the guarantee of fun and fulfill their appetite of pleasure at the moment out of the vulnerabilities which we display in us. If you are on the receiving end, you can imagine yourself to be the marionette doll, with strings attached by someone else.

The easy way out might seem to ignore such predators and perverse influencers, but the only solution is to engage with such social predators on equal terms, if not more. Such an act is tough to bare and tougher to implement. A friend of mine, who faced a continuous bullying in his class, could not ignore them until he found a supportive and protecting group of people in the same class. However, this action was not the solution.
In the instance of my friend and his new found group of like-minded people they would just expand the action and collectively ignore the predators. This led to more bullying and a perceived false sense of higher standards among such people. This social disconnect could only come to an end when both sides actively engaged with each other. The need is to make the other side realize that all individuals on either side are equal in all aspects.
Why do I have to face the bully?
A bully in today’s world is not just the imagined hooligan of the lot. She or he can be the person with whom we share your affection, the person we call as friend or a superior at work. These bullies will come and go with the passage of time. If we do not act against the false domination, then these bullies will only be replaced with another bully and the ignorant one will remain as the punching bag.
The distress addressed above is not an uncommon one in our lives and we all have endured through such events. It is the basic law of social nature, where the vulnerable is the prey for the opportunist. When we face a threat, it is good to have allies and friends. But when we have to do something, allies will become laggards and it will always be up to our own will and wisdom to act.
