This article is about you and me, and all the small and big problems we face. How I have found my way through, and I am hopeful it works for you as well. May the force be with you!
“Being good at one, makes me good at other”
Why is this attitude important? Because it gives us a reason to do good in all the small things that we do throughout our day that helps us do good in the big things that we are going to achieve in our life. And being good does not mean the absolute best. It only means the limit of good that you can be. For instance, my daily routine involves starting the day with work out to physically exhaust myself till I can sense the sweat steaming out of me. That hour and a half of physical exhaustion and the sense of satisfaction gives me the perseverance to take up my work and excel in it. For me, that is the booster of the day. Every act that I do, no matter how big or small, if I do it right, it surely reflects on me through out. An act that you do and if you do it good to your scale of measurement, that act will undoubtedly help you do good in more relevant endeavors of life.
“But what is it that I am good at?”
Why is the title of this paragraph important? Because it is the best adventure one can ask for. As I write this article, it helps me some small way to write, to express and to connect with you. It helps me discuss with my sister about her passion of writing. It helps me understand the psyche of the people I work with and against. It helps me express myself. Not everything that you do, requires you to earn a medal. As an Asian kid, our families train us to learn martial arts, dance, music, sports, mathematics and engineering at a very young age. So, considering it is a red herring I had to better decide what I wanted to do, or I would miss the bus. Which I did. Does it mean I failed? I am certain that you must have faced a similar situation.
So, have you failed?
“No” is the answer to that question for either of us, keeping in mind the larger context. You have failed only if you skip all the chances to learn from it. Life always makes sure to give you another chance. My goal was unfamiliar to my parents’ know-how back then and I was not able to convince them. I was not able to convince them because I was not prepared with the right pitch and the right attitude. But a winner is only one who has tasted defeat. So, I made peace with the fact that I missed the bus, improved upon my attitude and strive to be good at what I believe in, “being good at one makes me good at the other”. I pursue my profession with the same vigor and mindset which helps me to contribute and play a relevant role at my work. “A good friend, and a worse enemy”. In today’s world, having such an impact through your work gives your team and the company a competitive edge and gives a bright opportunity for a fair and favorable practice of business. Such are the key moments in our lives, which either break us, or raise us. And your goals, they should not be shallow either. Because facing defeat in achieving the shallowest of lives does not give you a chance to live the best adventure you could ask for.
How do I know if I have succeeded?
Quite a few people and scammers can try to trick you and me by giving answers to “When do I know if I have succeeded”. We need to be careful of such fantasies. For me, it is the way my circle reacts around me. When a friend calls me and informs on her big achievement, or a friend who calls me in his time of grief, or a friend who remembers me and calls me because we shared many good laughs and punishments together in school, college and the boot camps, these moments define the emotional length and depth of our friendship. Or in my line of profession, the people I stand up against, I make sure I can be a strength to my team, and “my job is the first line of offence and the last line of defense for my team”, as we are told so. Every business like a battle, and you must treat it as such.
The way forward….
I hope you help yourself build a great resolve to do good things and do them right. Despite all odds, you and me still have a lot of chances coming our way to be good and do great.
HAPPY HUNTING!
